Job Description Job Description Position Overview: The Take-Off
Engineer is responsible for accurate and complete quantity takeoffs
and document control used in estimating concrete construction
projects. This role supports DHRG's core operations by ensuring the
Estimating, Accounting, and Operations teams are working from
well-documented and thoroughly scoped project data. The individual
in this role is expected to model and uphold DHRG’s mission,
vision, core values, leadership competencies, and cultural norms.
Key Responsibilities and Time Allocation: 1. Quantity Take-Off &
Estimating Support (50%) Download bid documents and maintain
project-specific files. Review RFPs and front-end project documents
to fully understand scope. Perform accurate takeoffs, verifying
that the scope is correctly captured. Request pricing from
vendors/subcontractors and evaluate quotes for completeness and
alignment with project plans/specs. Present take-off packages to
Estimators for formal review. Attend job walks/site visits as
required. 2. Estimating Department Administration & Document
Control (20%) Initiate and maintain the Contract Status Form for
new bids/projects. Update and manage the Bid Schedule in
coordination with the Estimator or VP of Preconstruction. Cost-code
drawings per internal standards. Request quarterly pricing updates
from vendors to maintain accurate cost databases. 3. Transition
Support from Estimating to Operations (10%) Participate in
Post-Award meetings to support a smooth handoff. Organize all bid
documents, accepted scope, drawings, and specs into appropriate
project folders. Track contract routing and assist the Project
Engineer with submittal preparation. 4. Client & Vendor
Communication (10%) Maintain effective communication with clients,
general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors. Confirm DHRG has
the most current bid documents and clarifications. Attend job walks
as needed to maintain visibility and build relationships. 5.
Professional & Personal Development (10%) Engage in continuous
learning via seminars, webinars, and independent research. Accept
and apply constructive feedback. Demonstrate initiative,
leadership, and time management. Improve proficiency in software
tools such as Bluebeam, Building Connected, PlanGrid, Procore, and
Construction Partner, Excel. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Timely and accurate completion of quantity take-offs. Clear
communication and handoff to the Estimating and Operations teams.
Effective document control and project file organization. Ongoing
professional development and adaptability. Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil
Engineering, or Business Management preferred. Equivalent
combination of education and construction experience acceptable.
Experience: 0–5 years in estimating, ideally within concrete
construction. 0–3 years field experience in concrete or general
construction is a plus. Skills & Abilities: Ability to accurately
survey and quantify self-performed work. Proficient in reading and
interpreting construction plans and specifications. Strong written
and verbal communication. Able to work in a fast-paced,
deadline-driven environment. Language: Fluent in English (written
and spoken) required. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
